Mobile Radar Container
Client: Institute for Maritime Technology (IMT)
Date: 2011
With the ever increasing sea traffic volumes along the coast of South Africa, criminal activities such as marine poaching, piracy and smuggling have become more pronounced.
To aid in the authorities combat against these illegal activities, our client had a design brief to incorporate an existing Kelvin Hughes radar unit into a mobile containerized command centre that could be deployable at quick notice to any part of the South African coastline were blackouts in radar activity was being experienced.
The container design catered for rapid deployment from a military vehicle without the aid of additional lifting machinery. The container is designed to automatically self level with the built in lifting legs to aid in obtaining optimal visibility required for the radar’s land to sea, line of sight.
The container is equipped with all the monitoring consol equipment required for the radar’s operation, 19” rack, bar fridge and air conditioning unit which will sustain the occupants for the duration of their mission.
