Lead Azide Drying and Sifting

The handling, drying and sifting of 5kg of the highly explosive compound–lead azide, was the request put forward by our client. Stringent international local safety regulations and guidelines had to be taken into account during the design phase to ensure the safety of all personnel that would be working within the controlled environment.

The PLC/HMI controlled system monitors all facets of th e process from the initial transfer of the product onto the machine, through the drying and sifting grading to the waste handling of the exhaust product. All automation processes are carried out with pneumatic systems specifically designed to cater for the explosive environment, within which they are to operate.

Four successful systems have been commissioned for African Explosives Limited (AEL).
