L-DES Container

The Littoral Detection Evaluation System (L-DES) container was manufactured for the Institute for Maritime Technology (IMT) for the monitoring of the South African coast line providing land to sea surveillance and automatic identification system (AIS) tracking data of vessels. The mobility of the system provides the team with a quick deployment turnaround time to hot spots where radar monitoring of the South African coast line is required for the fight against acts such as resource plundering, smuggling.

Together with the Coastal Surveillance Command Centre (CSCC) container the integration of various sensor systems along the coastline with a regional and/or national command and control centre can be achieved. A CSS is useful in displaying and controlling an area, providing a coastal surveillance picture, facilitating optimum domain awareness, resource utilisation and decision-making various levels.
